Lower oil prices and the sale of assets pushed up Dow Chemical’s third-quarter profit 56% above the corresponding period last year, despite a 3% decline in sales. The Midland, Mich., company said the latest results include a gain before taxes of $54 million from the sale of assets in the quarter, including shares in Rorer Group that Dow had bought as an investment.
