Village Christian 35, L.A. Lutheran 5--A record-setting performance by quarterback Chris Johnson, who opened the game by completing his first four passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, led Village Christian to an easy Alpha League victory.
Johnson completed 6 of 7 passes for a school-record 173 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown passes came on Village Christian’s first two possessions.
On the Crusaders’ first play from scrimmage, Johnson connected with Tyler Victor for a 61-yard gain. Two plays later, he threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Alex Hepburn for the game’s first score.
On the Crusaders’ next possession, Hepburn went 59 yards with a Johnson screen pass. Hepburn caught three passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
Village Christian’s third first-quarter touchdown put the game away. Linebacker Ron Romberger intercepted L.A. Lutheran quarterback Jeff Young at the Lion 20-yard line. Two plays later he scored the first of two touchdowns on a 17-yard run.
Village Christian’s defense held the Lions to no first downs and minus-11 yards total offense in the first half. L.A. Lutheran (1-6, 1-3 in league) also lost Young after he injured an ankle midway through the second quarter.
Young’s replacement, Paul Johnson, completed 6 of 11 attempts for 53 yards with three interceptions. Andrew Ream of Village Christian (4-3, 2-2 in league) had two of the interceptions.
Village Christian improved its record to 4-3 and 2-2 in league play while L.A. Lutheran slipped to 1-6 and 1-3.
