San Diego Community College Football : Southwestern Plays Mesa for Second

Southwestern College played last week for the Mission Conference lead. This week, the Apaches are playing for second place.
Southwestern, which lost to Riverside, 42-14, last week, plays San Diego Mesa Saturday. Mesa quarterback Jeff Sturch has completed 153 of 270 passes for 1,852 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Sophomore wide receiver Deangelo Mitchell has 59 catches for 820 yards and leads the conference with 11 touchdown catches.
Southwestern’s offense is led by Brad Platt, who has completed 137 of 272 passes for 1,898 yards. He leads the conference in touchdown passes with 18.
Palomar, which has lost two straight after being 5-1 and ranked 20th in the nation, plays an improving Orange Coast at San Marco High School.
Defending national co-champion Saddleback’s bid for an 11th consecutive conference title ended last week when the Gauchos were forced to forfeit three victories because of an ineligible player.
