Previews of Southeast / Long Beach Teams : ACADEMY LEAGUE

AVALON--Dave Lassiter is the new coach in Catalina, replacing Mark Gard, now an assistant coach at Wilson High. The Lancers return starters Mondo Lopez, a 6-0 forward, and Isaac Felix, a 5-9 guard. Lassiter says the team lacks height and experience.

LEFFINGWELL CHRISTIAN--First-year Coach Mike Stovall has three players returning from a team that went 22-6: 6-0 forward Damon Bass, 6-1 forward Dwayne Fowler and 5-10 guard Angelo Michaels.

WHITNEY--The defending Southern Section Small Schools champion (see story on Page 1) returns all five starters, including the division’s player of the year, Matt Bowley, a 6-2 swingman. Coach Bruce Carlisle said, “We should win it all.”
