Vietnam’s Communist Party lashed out at its own members for dishonesty, violations of discipline, red tape and oppressing subordinates, warning that 190,000 members have already been expelled and that the purge must continue. In an editorial on the 57th anniversary of the party’s founding, the party newspaper, Nhan Dan, said there is a wide gap between the abilities of party members and the needs of the revolution. “Not only has old theoretical thinking fallen behind the times but also the quality of a sector of party members has downgraded, and not a few of them have degenerated,” the editorial said.
