Schoolchildren in N.J. Get Booklets on AIDS

TRENTON, N.J. — The state of New Jersey, hoping to curb the spread of AIDS, said Monday it is distributing booklets on the deadly disease to schoolchildren.
Steven Saunders, a state Health Department educator, said that New Jersey is the first state in the nation to take such action.
The 16-page illustrated booklet tells how a person can contract AIDS and how the immune system works, and it describes the signs of AIDS infection. A list of phone numbers for more information is included. The booklet is published in large print and is written at a fourth-grade level, he said.
