Death Penalty

According to a Times account (Jan. 31) Assemblyman Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica) supports the death penalty now. Is this what is meant by “cutting one’s conscience to fit this year’s fashion?”
Though I support the death penalty, I have more respect for an opponent of capital punishment than for some jellyfish who would sanction an execution solely to advance his political career. Tom Hayden has no shame.
