KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Prison authorities hanged six convicted drug traffickers this week, the national news agency Bernama said Friday. Three men were hanged Friday and three others two days ago in northern Taiping Prison.
Under Malaysia’s stiff anti-drug laws, anyone in possession of specified quantities of drugs is presumed to be a trafficker and faces a mandatory death penalty. Six Singaporeans, two Australians and one Indonesian have been among a total of 47 people hanged for drug offenses in Malaysia since 1983.
