Arriving from Milan with just 10 minutes to spare, American soprano Lynne Strow Piccolo covered for an ailing Margaret Price on Monday night at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London--and the role was no less than the torturous title role of Bellini’s “Norma.” “The audience cheered when they were told what she was doing--I think a British audience appreciates a good sport competing against the odds,” said an opera-company spokeswoman, who was not identified in accord with British practice.
