After more than a year of testimony and weeks of closing arguments, the complex heroin conspiracy case dubbed the “Pizza Connection” went to the jury. U.S. District Judge Pierre Leval of Manhattan turned the case over to the anonymous jury after explaining the complex, 59-page verdict sheet. The panel has been sequestered since one of the 19 defendants was shot and seriously wounded on a Manhattan street Feb. 11. Another defendant was found slain in December.
