Santa Monica : YMCA Launches Fund Drive
The Santa Monica Family YMCA has launched a $3.5-million capital development campaign, naming Lowell T. Patton as general campaign chairman and Archie M. Morrison as community gifts committee chairman. Morrison is vice president emeritus of Santa Monica College.
Total cost of the YMCA’s planned rehabilitation and construction is $7 million, with half of the money coming from tax-exempt bonds and half from the fund-raising drive.
Plans call for purchase of the parking lot on the south side of the YMCA’s 6th Street building, construction of an indoor swimming pool and aquatic center and larger and more fully equipped health and education facilities. Child-care classrooms and program areas will be nearly tripled in capacity, and parking will be increased by 150 spaces.
