Soviets Reopen Their Embassy in Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia — The Soviet Union on Wednesday formally reopened its embassy in Monrovia, closed two years ago when Liberia accused diplomats at the mission of engaging in activities incompatible with their status. A five-man Soviet delegation flew into Liberia over the weekend and was received Wednesday at the Foreign Ministry.
President Samuel K. Doe announced the resumption of diplomatic relations last year as part of Liberia’s nonaligned policy. However, the two governments did not exchange ambassadors, and the Soviet mission remained shut.
