“Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell’s Greatest Hits”/”Diana & Marvin.” Motown. Diana Ross’ teaming with Gaye is no doubt the bigger selling point in this “two-for-one” CD package, but it’s the match-up with Terrell that’s the real treat. The Ross/Gaye recordings aren’t bad, but they suffer from an aura of commercial strategy. Gaye and Terrell, by contrast, sang with such graceful romantic urgency and rejoicing on late ‘60s hits like “You’re All I Need to Get By” and “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” that the pair may well rate as the most captivating vocal duo ever in pop-soul. *** 1/2
