SYDNEY, Australia — A federal judge today pardoned a woman who was convicted of killing her 9-month-old daughter, saying the mother may have told the truth when she said a dingo, or native wild dog, snatched and ate the baby.
The case has captured headlines across Australia since police arrested Lindy Chamberlain in 1980, alleging she slashed the throat of her daughter, Azaria, at Ayer’s Rock. Chamberlain was convicted in 1982 and sentenced to life in prison.
