A Vietnamese radio broadcast alleged Monday that violent and erotic films from Europe, Hong Kong and Taiwan--shown by the government under the pretext of research--are triggering an “alarming rate” of student misbehavior. Radio Hanoi reported that authorities in the Dong Thap province had shown the videotapes of “decadent” films to raise money under the pretext of hospitality or research. The unauthorized movies, made in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Western Europe, included “Love Among Martial Arts Practitioners,” “The Twelve Exterminators” and “Autumn’s Falling Leaves.” “As a result of (viewing) violent and sexually arousing videotapes, incidents involving students leading an undisciplined life style or brawling in general schools in Dong Thap province have reached an alarming rate,” the broadcast said.
