Three teen-agers were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of shattering 30 car windows in the city’s University Park neighborhood with BB and pellet guns, police said.
The juveniles, two aged 17 and the other 15, were arrested minutes after midnight, Lt. Albert Muir said. An 18-year-old in the same car was held for questioning and then released.
Officers found two BB guns, one pellet rifle and two paint pellet rifles in the red Volkswagen Rabbit that matched the description of a car seen early Monday near a vandalized car, Muir said.
Police started receiving calls from irate car owners early Monday morning, Muir said. Vandals, in what a witness described as a red foreign car, apparently began shattering the windows late Sunday night and continued into Monday morning.
The juveniles, released to their parents, told police they had also shot at a cat and at moving cars, Muir said. He said officials had not yet decided whether to file felony or misdemeanor charges of vandalism.
