WIMBLEDON, England — Martina Navratilova won for the second time in little more than 24 hours today, beating Japan’s Etsuko Inoue 6-1, 6-2 in the only match completed on another rainy day at Wimbledon.
An upset was in the making on Centre Court, as the world’s top-ranked men’s player, Ivan Lendl, dropped the first set of his match, 6-3, to unseeded Paolo Cane of Italy. The second set was 5-5, with both players holding serve throughout, when rain suspended play for the day.
