Juan Samaranch, president of the International Olympic Committee, said in Athens that Greece will have to work hard to win the right to stage the 1996 Olympics, where the modern Games began 100 years earlier.
Moreover, Samaranch said, if Greece proves capable of staging the event, “We will see what can be done for the permanent staging of the Games here.”
