Pico Rivera : Trash Hauling Rates Raised
The Pico Rivera City Council has approved an 8.5% increase in residential and commercial trash collection rates. The residential rate will be raised from $6.80 to $7.38 a month, and the commercial rate for one trash bin, for example, would go from $44 to about $48 a month. Mayor Garth Gardner said a $2.50-per-ton increase imposed on trash haulers was primarily responsible for the city’s increase.
The council also authorized the Public Works Department to hire an on-site construction inspector for $10,000 to oversee work on the Pico Rivera Golf Course clubhouse. Construction of the $500,000 clubhouse has been delayed while officials analyze conflicting test results on the strength of the building’s concrete. The clubhouse is now scheduled for completion in late September or early October, Public Works Director John Medina said.
In other action, the council voted to contract with R & L Sewers Inc. of Paramount for $219,000 worth of sewer improvements on Whittier Boulevard near Tobias Avenue, and voted to hire a temporary code enforcement officer to work weekends monitoring yard sales and garage sales.
