UCLA’s Upward Bound, which helps prepare low-income students for college, was one of eight programs nationwide whose proposal for funds received a top score in a competition held by the U. S. Department of Education, officials announced.
The UCLA proposal by program Director Linda Stevens was among 500 entries nationwide. As a result of its high score, Upward Bound will receive funding through 1989, officials said. The program provides workshops, tutoring, counseling, academic enrichment, college information and campus visits to help low-income students prepare for higher education.
