A love story written by Pope John Paul II will make its TV debut in Italy this year, the Italian national broadcasting network RAI announced. “The Goldsmith’s Shop,” a play written in 1960 when the pontiff was Msgr. Karol Wojtyla, an auxiliary bishop in Krakow, is being filmed in his native Poland. It will star Burt Lancaster, Ben Cross and Olivia Hussey. It is due to be completed in Canada by the end of August and broadcast in Italy in December. RAI said it was negotiating with a U.S. company for the world distribution rights.
