ARLINGTON, Va. — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) suffered minor head and leg injuries when his car hit a tree that had fallen across the road, police said.
The car, driven by Kennedy aide Michael Gavigan, hit the large tree Wednesday night as the two drove to Kennedy’s McLean, Va., home after a Senate hearing in Washington, U.S. Park Police Lt. David Stover said.
Neither man was hospitalized, but damage to the car was “bad enough that they couldn’t drive it away,” another park police spokesman said. The car was towed.
