A 62-year-old “good Samaritan” was honored by the Los Angeles City Council for risking his life to save two police officers last month. Gregorio Vega, a retired truck driver, pulled Officers Steve Mulldorfer and Julian Almarez from their burning patrol car after it careened into an off-duty school bus at a Pacoima intersection. While being presented with a plaque at a council ceremony, Vega said he forgot that he was still recovering from back surgery when he saw the wreck.
