Former world champion figure skater Debi Thomas, a member of the Burbank-based Los Angeles Figure Skating Club, will enroll at the University of Colorado this fall while she trains in Boulder for the 1988 Winter Olympics, university officials said Thursday.
Thomas, who won the world and national titles in 1986, will train at the school’s Student Recreation Center ice arena.
Colorado figure skating pro Maureen Reiter said Thomas decided to move to Boulder because her hometown ice rink in Redwood City, Calif., has been closed. Thomas also wants to train at an altitude similar to that of Calgary, where the 1988 Winter Olympics will be held.
Thomas plans on staying in Boulder through the 1988 world championships next spring.
