Postal Service Picks Centel for $100-Million Contract

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service awarded a $100-million contract for The new equipment will apply forwarding-address labels to mail for people mail-forwarding equipment to Centel Information Systems of Rockville, Md.

The new equipment, to be installed at 224 major postal centers, will automatically print a corrected address on the mail along with a bar code that can be read by machine. By speeding service and reducing manpower needs, the equipment is expected to save as much as $77 million a year.
