Ruling Party Again Wins Governorship of Mexico State

MEXICO CITY — Mario Ramon Beteta, a former director of the state oil monopoly Pemex and former treasury secretary, has been declared winner of the election for governor of the state of Mexico.
Beteta, who resigned from Pemex to become candidate of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, drew 63.6% of the vote, compared to 9.8% for Javier Paz Zarza of the National Action Party, according to official results released by the State Electoral Commission late Sunday.
Enrique Bracho Gonzalez, candidate of a three-party leftist coalition, was third with 8.9%. Other parties totaled 17.7% of the vote.
Mexico state, with 11.2 million residents, is the most populous and the most industrialized.
The Institutional Revolutionary Party has not lost any Mexican election for president, governor or senator since it was founded in 1929.
