Police investigators Sunday night were searching for a 10-year-old diabetic boy who ran away from home over the weekend, raising fears that he could become ill, a police spokesman said.
Officer Richard McMillen said Shane Bradley Burns was last seen at 4 p.m. Saturday. He said a 15-year-old brother discovered Shane missing when he returned from the store to their home in the 7300 block of Santa Elena Street.
The boy’s mother and stepfather, Virginia and Danny Figueroa, were not home when he was discovered missing, the officer said.
McMillen said the boy is 4 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt, brown corduroy pants, and yellow and black sneakers.
He said the boy, who has run away from home before, last took an insulin injection for his diabetes Friday night.
“He has gone 40 hours without his insulin. His doctor said he should be very weak by now and could go into a diabetic coma within the next 24 hours if he does not take his shot,” McMillen said.
Anyone with information is asked to call McMillen at (714) 521-9352.
