About 100,000 workers from the public sector went on strike for a second day in Panama, seeking higher pay and reinstatement of workers fired for taking part in protests against the country’s military strongman, Gen. Manuel A. Noriega. Hector Aleman, leader of the Federation of Public Workers, said the strike could last indefinitely if no agreement is reached with the government on their demands. So far, the strike has affected workers in 10 of the government’s 12 ministries and in two state-run banks and certain parts of the duty-free zone in the port of Colon, according to Aleman.
