The director of Canada’s fledgling domestic intelligence service resigned after the agency admitted using faulty information to obtain a wiretap on a suspected Sikh extremist. Ted Finn, head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, is to be replaced, the government said. On Friday, a lawyer for the service told a federal court that the agency had used unreliable information and made other “extensive and serious” errors when it asked for court approval for a wiretap that led to criminal charges against a Canadian Sikh after the downing of an Air India jet in 1985 that killed 329.
