A utility company has acknowledged that vital telephone and control lines were cut off and other mishaps triggered by last month’s fire at the Fort St. Vrain nuclear power plant near Denver, according to a published report. At one point during the Oct. 2 emergency at the Platteville, Colo., plant an alarm sounded indicating high levels of radioactivity when there was no such problem, the Denver Post reported, quoting from an account of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission hearing at Bethesda, Md. The faulty reading apparently was caused by the fire, Public Service Co. of Colorado told the NRC.
