Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III testified for four hours before a federal grand jury in Washington investigating his involvement with scandal-plagued Wedtech Corp. and he was facing another appearance today. In two sessions since last Friday, Meese has spent a total of nine hours before the grand jury, which is hearing testimony as part of an investigation being conducted by independent counsel James C. McKay. Meese came under criminal investigation after it was disclosed that in 1985 he invested $55,000 with W. Franklyn Chinn, an investment manager who sat on Wedtech’s board of directors until last February. Meese has acknowledged interceding on Wedtech’s behalf in 1982 when the Bronx, N.Y., defense contractor was seeking a government contract to build small engines for the Army.
