Mountain, Foothill Rise Above Canyon

Tailback John Mountain gained 141 yards and ran for two touchdowns in 16 carries to lead Foothill High School to a 22-6 Century League victory over Canyon Friday at Tustin High School.
Mountain, who had only 11 yards in 5 carries in the first half, had runs of 53, 19 and 18 in the second. He had six-yard touchdown runs in each of the second and fourth quarters.
Foothill (4-5, 1-3) had 248 yards on the ground and 61 through the air for a total of 309 yards. Canyon (2-6-1, 0-3-1) managed 153 on the ground and 56 passing for 209 yards.
A 57-yard run by wingback Adam Chambers set up a 37-yard field goal by Courtney Keyler to give the Knights a 3-0 first-quarter lead. Mountain’s first touchdown increased Foothill’s lead to 9-0 midway through the second quarter.
Canyon made it 9-6 late in the first half on a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Furukawa to wide receiver David Lara.
Running back Mike Horton caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Hawkins in the third quarter to give Foothill a 15-6 lead. Mountain closed out the scoring in the final quarter.
