Local News in Brief : Cement Plant Delay Urged

Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores, in a letter to the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners, has asked the board to delay approval for construction of a cement importing plant until the port devises a plan to combat the increased truck traffic the facility will generate in Wilmington.

The commissioners were scheduled to vote on the plan today, as well as on a proposal by the port to establish a task force to study the truck traffic problem.

Residents have complained that the cement plant, proposed by Wilmington Liquid Bulk Terminals Inc., will bring 100 more trucks a day into the already congested community. On Wednesday, Flores said she did not want to delay the development, but said the creation of a task force is not enough.
