Judge Ginsburg Withdraws
The continuing story of the nominees to the Supreme Court has clearly shown the different values of conservative and liberal senators. Judge Robert Bork’s views on privacy and civil rights horrified many liberals--Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) et al--but were considered assets by conservatives. On the other hand, the smoking of marijuana by Judge Ginsburg, considered an embarrassment by conservatives, was dismissed by influential liberals--Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) et al. In these cases, the liberals seem more concerned with the future of individual rights while the conservatives are preoccupied with appearances. Indeed, the nominations have revealed the priorities of American politicians.
