Another national marketing campaign for a potentially up-and-coming product has been started by Gish Biomedical, a Santa Ana-based manufacturer of medical equipment. Gish has entered into a marketing agreement with McGhan Instrumed, a Carpenteria medical instrument distributor, to boost sales of its Microyag laser, which is used in eye surgery to treat secondary cataracts.

Gish President Jack Brown said the marketing contract gives McGhan the exclusive right for three years to distribute the portable laser in the United States and abroad. Gish introduced the laser on a limited basis last year. Now that several thousand surgeries have been performed with it, Brown said, the company is ready to market it aggressively. An ophthalmologist can buy a unit for his office for about $28,000.
