Local News in Brief : Countywide : Riley Wants Cigarette Machines Taken Out

Supervisor Thomas F. Riley, a former smoker, wants the county to remove cigarette vending machines from all the buildings it owns or leases.
In a request to the other four supervisors, none of whom smoke, Riley said that since the county has put most of its buildings off-limits to smokers and has required smoke-free areas in businesses in unincorporated county territory employing 10 or more workers, it should take the next logical step.
Riley said that as of last March 25 there were 13 cigarette vending machines in county facilities. He said that in the one-year period ending Oct. 3, 1986, the county received $1,402.31 in revenue from vendors given permission to install and machines.
The supervisors are scheduled to consider Riley’s request Tuesday.
