The father of a 3-year-old Alhambra boy believed to have been kidnaped by his baby sitter was arrested Thursday after police learned the baby sitter was actually the child’s mother, Alhambra police said.
George Alvarez, 26, was arrested on suspicion of making a false police report and conspiracy after telling police that a baby sitter had stolen his son, Detective Stephen Perry said.
Alvarez said his son, Carlos Alvarez, disappeared about 10 a.m. Tuesday with the baby sitter he had used for more than a year. But police learned Thursday that the woman, Eneida Cruz Rivera, had divorced Alvarez in Texas a few years ago and had joint custody of the child, Perry said.
“Alvarez lied to us hoping that we would find the child,” he said.
