Long Beach City College eliminated Valley from the Southern California junior college water polo playoffs with a 16-6 victory Friday in a first-round match at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Kurt McCullum scored three goals to lead Valley (13-11) and John Marshall added two. Valley converted only six of 26 shots on goal.
Valley, which trailed, 6-2, after the first quarter, fell nine goals behind at halftime.
“We had a lot of trouble with their goalie, he was just great,” Valley Coach Bill Krauss said. “Our guys were pretty satisfied because Long Beach has won a lot of games this year.”
In 31 of the past 32 years under Coach Monte Nitzkowski, Long Beach (22-1) has either won or shared the conference title.
The Monarchs, the lowest-seeded team in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament, won the Southern California Conference with a 6-2 record.
