Transportation Sales Tax Hike
Your Nov. 8 editorial calling for a sales tax increase for transportation in Orange County failed to consider the reason for voter resistance to such a scheme.
By stating that “polls have shown that county residents want road improvements. They just don’t want to pay for them,” The Times joins the bureaucrats who still can’t or won’t understand why Proposition A went down to such spectacular defeat.
What county residents refused to do was to vote themselves a whopping tax increase for a plan which would have only benefitted the developers, permitted higher densities and have actually made traffic worse. It was just that simple.
Until those same politicians begin to realize that the citizens have their rights too, no sweetheart tax boondoggle is ever going to pass in Orange County.
