The Cal State Northridge men’s soccer team, ranked No. 1 in Division II, will play two-time defending national champion Seattle Pacific in the Western regional final Friday at 7:30 p.m. at North Campus Stadium. The winner will advance to the Final Four Dec. 4-6 at a site to be determined.
This is the third consecutive year that the teams have met in the playoffs. Seattle Pacific won, 3-2, in 1985, and 2-1 last season.
CSUN (17-1-4), which won its fourth consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Assn. title, had a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Seattle Pacific (18-1-4), ranked fifth, last week defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 2-1, in a first-round game. The Falcons have been to the playoffs 16 times in the past 17 years and won national championships in 1978, ‘83, ’85 and ’86.
In the Northeast regional final, C. W. Post plays at Southern Connecticut. In the Central region, Lock Haven is at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. In the South, the Florida Institute of Technology is at Tampa.
