Send Up the Flag for Murry Sidlin

Several years ago, I participated in a successful SOS drive to Save Our Schools. More recently, in another SOS campaign (Save Our Symphony), I dutifully taped a “Bring Back the Long Beach Symphony” sticker to the rear window of my automobile.
After listening to friends and acquaintances describe their admiration and respect for the music director of the Long Beach Symphony (Murry Sidlin) and describe their shock and disbelief at the non-renewal of his contract, perhaps what we need is another SOS effort, Save Our Sidlin.
Why don’t those who attend the symphony, pops concerts and pre-concert lectures and parents of those children who attend the Kinderkonzerts and concerts for fifth- and sixth-graders, send a simple “Renegotiate Sidlin’s Contract” or “Save Our Sidlin” to Managing Directors Choppin, Masterson & Murchison in care of the Long Beach Symphony Assn., 125 East 8th St., Long Beach, Calif., 90813.
With due respect and thanks to those who put the symphony back on its financial feet, may we remind the decision-makers that in a democracy, the wishes of those who purchase symphony tickets and care about the cultural life in Long Beach should be considered.
