Peruvian guerrillas hurled dynamite at the U.S. Embassy and four rebels were shot to death by guards in an attack on a Nissan auto plant as a wave of violence swept Lima during a 45-minute blackout. Radio reports said there were at least 16 explosions in the capital during the blackout of Lima and the central coast. There was no official word on what caused the power outage, but leftist Sendero Luminoso guerrillas, who have been battling the government for seven years, have caused dozens of power outages by bombing transmission-line pylons. A U.S. spokesman said no one was injured in the attack on the embassy.
