The Newport Beach City Council is scheduled Monday to decide on a proposed expansion of Fashion Island. The Irvine Co., owner of the shopping center, is seeking to expand it by 69,500 square feet, but the proposal has drawn opposition from a local slow-growth group. Leaders of Stop Polluting Our Newport say the expansion would add to traffic congestion.
