HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. — Chrysler Corp. will cut production at three assembly plants, eliminating 2,900 jobs, and increase output at four plants, adding 1,300 jobs in the United States and Canada, beginning in the first quarter of 1988, Chrysler Motors Chairman Gerald Greenwald said today.
Chrysler also will shut down four assembly plants, three in the United States and one in Canada, for one to three weeks in January, temporarily laying off 10,200 workers, to allow dealers to reduce inventories of unsold cars.
