Police are asking for help in locating the driver of a brown car that sideswiped a pickup truck Saturday on Regents Road in Clairemont, triggering a fatal accident.
The brown car was southbound on Regents Road between California 52 and Luna Avenue about 5 p.m. when it struck the pickup truck, sending it across the center divider and into northbound traffic, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Martha E. Tumsuden, 39, of La Jolla was killed when her car was struck nearly head-on by the truck, Robinson said.
The driver of the truck, Terry Holben, 39, of Clairemont, was treated for injuries at Scripps Memorial Hospital. He was later released.
The car that fled the scene may have sustained damage to its left side, Robinson said.
Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 235-TIPS on evenings and weekends or dial the police traffic division during business hours at 531-2204.
