Renowned tenor Placido Domingo has canceled tonight’s appearance in the San Francisco Opera’s production of Jacques Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” because of his father’s death Sunday in Mexico City. Domingo flew to his home in Mexican capital on Monday to be with relatives. Domingo, who has played the part of Hoffmann in four performances of the opera this month, will be replaced tonight by tenor Neil Shicoff, currently singing the part of Romeo in the S.F.O.’s staging of “Romeo et Juliette.”
