Kenya revoked an expulsion order issued to nine missionaries last week and reinstated their work permits, a U.S. Embassy official said. The nine, a Canadian and eight Americans working at Kitale in western Kenya, had been ordered to leave the country by today. No official explanation was given for the Kenyan government’s reversal, but diplomats have linked the affair to Kenyan allegations of a Ku Klux Klan plot to destabilize the nation through the work of missionaries. Seven other missionaries were expelled earlier in connection with the alleged plot, which the United States has denounced as phony.
