Two Thousand Oaks men were being held Sunday after several pipe bombs were found in their vehicle during a routine traffic stop in Reseda, authorities said.
Keith Harvey, 20, and Jeffrey Nemet, 18, were stopped by California Highway Patrol officers shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday after they ran a red light at Tampa Avenue and Victory Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Officer Jack Rinallo said.
CHP officers saw a metal ammunition box and a rifle inside the vehicle, Rinallo said.
When officers opened the box, they found six homemade pipe bombs ready to be detonated and a partially completed bomb, CHP Officer Monty Kiefer said.
Part of the area was blocked off, and the LAPD’s bomb squad was called to the scene to deactivate the bombs, Kiefer said.
Harvey and Nemet were taken to the West Valley Division Jail.
