Ten allegedly unique manuscript scores by Italian composer--and putative rival of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart--Antonio Salieri have been unearthed by a Czechoslovak museum, the Czechoslovak news agency Ceteka reported Monday. Discovered in the archives of the Moravian Museum in Brno, the scores include a requiem, three operas, an oratorio, cantatas, choruses and a Singspiel , the agency said. Interest in Salieri (1750-1825), a court composer in Vienna who is believed by some to have murdered Mozart, was reawakened by the play and subsequent film “Amadeus,” which depicts Salieri’s jealousy of Mozart. The scores--which may be performed at a music festival in Brno in 1989--were part of a collection owned by Moravian count Heinrich Haugwitz, a close friend of Salieri.
