A funeral service was conducted Tuesday in Long Beach for a 41-year-old man killed last week when he slipped and fell 1,500 feet while mountain climbing in Mexico.
Stephen Embler, a business analyst for McDonnell Douglas, was killed Dec. 28 while climbing at the 18,500-foot level of Mt. Orizaba, about 150 miles east of Mexico City, said his father-in-law, Larry Larson. Donald Schubert of Simi Valley was Embler’s only climbing partner.
Embler was an experienced mountain climber, having scaled Mt. Whitney in California three times, Larson said. A master’s degree graduate of Pepperdine University in Malibu, Embler had lived in Long Beach two years with his wife and two children.
